“Lloyd George” is part of the Great Lives Observed series.  This short volume is divided into three sections: Lloyd George Looks At The World, The World Looks At Lloyd George and Lloyd George In History.

While not a biography, it does convey some insights into its subject’s life and character.  George is portrayed as a social reformer who lost his them to the Labour Party, a nimble politician who rose to the pinnacle of power without the leadership of the major party in parliament, and one who was widely respected in war and peace but whose practices finally caught up with him and resulted the Conservative Party’s withdrawal of support that drove him into the political wilderness for the rest of his still lengthy career.

This is an easy, quick read that draws from a broad spectrum of sources.  I read it to give me a peak into the career of one of the major players during World War I.  For the amount of reading I did it was worthwhile.
